Liverpool es una de las ciudades más interesantes del norte de Inglaterra. Los Beatles son los grandes causantes de que ésta sea un punto turístico en el mapa, pero eso no es lo único interesante que podéis encontrar en esta ciudad, y lo comprobaréis a medida que vayáis leyendo el post.
Liverpool is one of the most important cities in the North of England. The Beatles has been caused that this town was a place of cultural interest, but it isn´t the only thing that this city has, and you´ll check it once you are finished this post.
Si te quieres llevar una impresión general de Liverpool lo mejor que puedes hacer es coger un Free Tour. Hay diferentes tipos, por la mañana sobre las 11, un tour general que recorre toda la ciudad y otro a las 3 de la tarde dedicado exclusivamente a los Beatles. El precio de éste es de 10 pounds. Solo tienes que pinchar AQUÍ y reservar tu plaza.
If you would like to have a quick overview of Liverpool to take a free tour will be the best option. there are different kinds of free tours. In the morning, about 11 a.m there is a general tour. And then about 3 p.m you could take another one exclusive of Beatles. It costs 10 pounds.
ST. Georges Hall, Empire Theatre, Liverpool Central Library, Radio City Tower and World Museum.
Estos edificios se encuentran en la misma zona menos Radio City Tower que se ve desde todo lados de la ciudad.
Como algo interesante podemos comentar que el arquitecto de St. George´s Hall, edificio neoclásico, lo construyó con tan solo 25 años y murió al poco tiempo. Es el edificio de quedada de los free tours, y se encuentra al lado de la Librería Central, que es el sitio con las vistas más altas de Liverpool donde no te hacen pagar, y cierra a las 8. La biblioteca por dentro es increíble. Se gastaron mas de 6 millones de euros en arreglarla, así que si tienes tiempo visitala y no olvides subir a la terraza.
Por otro lado, si queréis tener unas vistas mas altas de Liverpool podéis subir a Radio City Tower (el precio creo que es unos 10 pounds)
El World Museum puedes visitarlo de manera gratuita, como todos, o casi todos los museos de Liverpool menos el Museo de la Guerra o el de los Beatles que vale 15 pounds por persona. Es básicamente un museo de historia (sección espacial, de dinosaurios, astronómica, un pequeño acuario...)
This buildings are located in the same area that Radio City Tower, which is viewed from all parts of the city.
As a interesting thing, I can tell you that San George´s architect built this at only 21 years, and he died few times later. In this place you could find the free tours because it is the point of the departure. Next to this building, The Central Library, where you can enjoy the viewa of Liverpool without pay. It close at 8 p.m, The library is wonderful inside. Tthe government spent more than 6 million of pounds in restore it, so if you have got time don´t forget to visit it and go up to the terrace. On the other hand if you would like to have higher views you could go up to Radio City Tower (the price is approximately 10 pounds)
The entry fee of the World Museum is free, as most of the museums in Liverpool wit two exceptions: The war Museum or Beatles Museum .
Beatles area: Mathew street, the cavern, Beatles Monuments.
En la calle Mathew podrás encontrar numerosos locales y bares dedicados a los Beatles, así como tiendas. El sitio más famoso de este lugar es de Cavern. un pub donde los Beatles tocaron un total de 292 veces. Lo curioso es que no les dejaban tocar su propia música pues este lugar era antes un salón de jazz. Cuando se internacionalizaron, no volvieron más.
In Mathew Street you could find lots of locals and bars which are dedicated to the Beatles. As well as shops where you could find a plenty number of CD, pictures, souvenirs etc...The most famous place in this street is The Cavern. It is a pub where The Beatles performed 292 times. the curious thing is that they coudn´t play their own music because this place was a jazz salon. When they were known internationally, they didn´t come back ever again.
La mujer que aparece sentada en el banco, da nombre a una cación de los Beatles muy famosa del disco Revolver, diseñada por Tommy Steele. La historia es un tanto particular pues McCarney siempre sostuvo que Eleanor lo tomó del nombre de una actriz llamada Eleanor Bron, y Rigby de una tienda de Bristol. Pero qué casualidad que en los 80 alguien encontró una tumba llamada Eleanor Rigby en la iglesia de St Peter, lugar además donde se conocieron Lennon y McCarney. Se dice que intentaron ocultarlo para que no se formara un revuelo en la tumba de esta pobre mujer que no tenía culpa de nada.
The women sitting in the bench, give the name a very famous Beatles´s song in Revolver Cd. The monument was designed for Tommy Steel. The story is quite partcularly because McCarney always said that Eleanor was a famous actress called Eleanor Bron, and Rigby was a nice shop in Bristol. but was it a coincidence? Someone found a grave with this exactly name in St Peter church, where Lennon and McCarney met each other. It is said that they tried to hide it fot the peace of the deceased.
Pier Head
Es un conjunto de tres edificios a orillas de río Mersey llamado "Las Tres Gracias" El Royal Liver Building, que es el edificio con las dos torres del reloj, sede de una Sociedad de Liverpool. El de alado, Cunard Building, Sede de una sociedad naviera y el edificio de la última foto es el Edificio del Puerto de Liverpool, ahora Comisión de esta ciudad.
Pier Head is a building complex in Mersey riverside. It is called "The Three Graces". The Royal Liver Building, with two clock towers, it is a society seat. Next to this building, we can find Cunard Building, shipping company seat . The building of the last picture is Port of Liverpool Building, now the Liverpool commission.
Albert Dock
Es el Puerto de Liverpool. En él se encuentra el museo de los Beatles. Pero a parte de esto podemos decir que fue declarado patrimonio de la humanidad y que tiene la colección de edificios históricos y artísticos más grande del Reino Unido. Por suerte para nosotros alguien decidió recuperarlo y ahora es un agradable paseo como el que os enseño en las fotos, con bares, museos (como el Museo Mmarñitimo) y tiendas. Os encantará si lo visitáis tanto de noche como de día. Es un lugar mágico y os encantará cada rincón.
In Albert Dock we could find the Beatles Museum. Furthermore we can say that it was declared heritage of humanity and it has the biggest artistic and historical building collection in U.K. Luckily for us, someone decided to recover it and now is a nice promenade like I´ll show you in these pictures. It is fulled of bars, shops and museums like Maritime Museum or Beatles Museum. You would like it as in the day as in the night. It is a magical place and you would love each corner!
Chinatown
Se dice que el barrio chino de Liverpool es el más antiguo de toda Europa, se encuentra cerca de la catedral y podrás reconocero facilmente por su gran arco o puerta. Consiste básicamente en una calle repleta de bares y tiendas de este estilo. Para mi gusto no es muy impresionante pero es curioso y si vas a visitar la catedral pasaras a unos metros de éste.
It is said that Liverpool Chinatown is the oldest in Europe. It is located close to the Cathedral and you could recognise it easily for its big gate. It consist basically in a long street fulled of restaurants and shops. From my point of view it wasn´t very impressive but if you are going to the cathedral you should go and see it.
Liverpool Anglican Cathedral
Esta algo alejada del centro de la ciudad pero podrás verla fácilmente porque es enorme, y destaca por eso. la piedra con la que está construida es de color osuro (arenisca roja) y es de estilo gótico. Es la única catedral que conozco con un restaurante dentro. sus dimensiones una vez en su interior te sorprenderán.
It is a little bit far of the city center but you could see it easily because it is massive. It is noted for this reason. It was build with red stone and its architecture is gothic. It is the only Cathedral I know that has a restaurant inside. Strange!
Shopping
El centro de liverpool es un lugar dedicado a las compras principalmente. Sus calles principales están llenas de tiendas de todo tipo. Destacamos Paradise street y Church street, ambas peatonales y donde encontraremos tiendas como Topshop, Primark, New Look, Zara, Forever21...y mucho más! Por otro lado hay un super centro comercial que es de nueva construcción llamado Metquarter os perderéis en él!
Liverpool city center is mainly dedicated to go shopping. Its pedestrian streets are fulled of differents kinds of shops. The most important are Paradise and Churh street both pedestrian where we could find shops like Primark Topshop, zara, etc...On the other hand there is a big and new shopping center called Metquarter. It is amazing!
