MANCHESTER GUIDE | GUÍA DE MANCHESTER

Por fin visitamos Mánchester, una ciudad muy importante de Inglaterra pero no muy turística en realidad. Cuando pregunté sobre esta ciudad no me la describieron exactamente como bonita, pero para poder hablar de ella primero tenía que conocerla, así que en este post os cuento mi experiencia y os hablo de uno de los días  más agradables y divertidos que he pasado en este país!

In the end, we visited Manchester, a really important city in England, although not very popular with tourists. I asked about this city to find out a bit more about it before going to visit. I found it surprising that people didn't describe it as a beautiful city, however it didn't put me off. I needed to go there and check it, then I could tell my own experience. In this post I will tell you one of the funniest days I have spent in this country. 

El medio de transporte que usamos fue el coche. Si vivís por aquí y no tenéis como moveros para visitar nuevas ciudades, alquilar un coche entre algunos amigos os saldrá bastante rentable, más que viajar en bus o en tren. Los parkings no son muy caros, la mayoría de los que encontramos no subían de 10 pounds el día. Mánchester Coach Station Parking fue nuestra elección, cerca del barrio de Chinatown. Importante destacar que Mánchester es una ciudad pequeña en la que podrás ir caminando a todos lados y la cual podrás visitar en poco tiempo. 

Pues bien, comenzamos!

The transport we chose was a car. If you are living in England and you would like to visit new places, it would be affordable to rent a car with some friends, always cheaper than travelling by train or bus. 

Parkings aren't very expensive, we didn't find any more expensive than £10 per day. Manchester Coach Station Parking was our choice, close to chinatown area. It is important to say that Manchester is a small city, so you could go walking everywhere and you'd be able to visit it in a very short time.

Mánchester es una de las ciudades mas coloridas de Reino Unido por su diversidad cultural. Además cuenta con el segundo barrio chino más grande de U.K. En él podemos encontrar numerosos restaurantes, casinos, karaokes, tiendas y más tiendas... es increíble como este barrio te traspasa a otro lugar, cuando realmente sigues estando en el centro de Mánchester! Podremos localizarlo fácilmente porque hay una gran puerta de entrada con un arco que lo hace reconocible.

Manchester is one of the most colourful cities in England due to the great diversity of people living there. Besides, it's got the second biggest chinatown area in the U.K. In this place you can find a lot of restaurants, shops, casinos, etc...It is amazing how this place can make you feel as if you were in another country, when in fact, you are still in Manchester city centre! You  can easily spot it, since there is a big chinese gate which makes the place very recognizable.

Mi consejo: Ir a Wong Wong Cafe en Gorton road y tomar unos bollos chinos y té de burbujas!

I would recomend that you go to wong wong caffee in gorton street, then get some Chinese bread and a cup of bubbles tea

Picadilly Gardens es una gran plaza que se encuentra en el centro. Si buscáis una oficina de turismo se encuentra aquí. En ella podréis conseguir un mapa o preguntar cualquier cosa! La plaza tiene un ambiente muy agradable, música en directo, zonas de césped donde la gente se relaja, y toma un café o una cerveza y un mercado que llama la atención, más que nada por el olor que desprende. Comida de todas clases, desde paella, a comida mexicana y puestos dulces! una gran elección si no te apetece parar a comer en un restaurante. También podréis encontrar un Primark tan grande en esta plaza, que no os dará tiempo en un día a recorrer todas sus plantas!

Picadilly gardens is a big square located in the city centre. If you are looking for a turism office it is just here, and you will be able to ask for a map while they explain to you all you need to know. The square has a nice atmostphere, life music and green areas to  either relax or drink a coffe or a beer. There is also a food market which will catch your attention with its nice smeel.

Different kinds of food, from paella till mexican food and sweet stands. If you don't want to eat in a restaurant, this will be a good choice. You Will find a massive primark where you won't have time to see all of it.

Busca Exchange Square y dirigete hacia esta. Es una plaza con una noria que te recordará al London Eye. Detrás de esta plaza, una zona repleta de bares y gente! A destacar el bar con la cerveza más barata de Mánchester el Oyster, en uno de los edificios mas antiguos de la ciudad donde debéis hacer una parada obligatoria. 

The next step is to get to Exchange Square. It is a square with a big ferris weel that looks like london eye. There are lots of bars and people in the back of this square. You should go to Oyster bar, it is one of the oldest buildings in Manchester and you can find the cheapest beer in Manchester.

Al lado de este bar hay una callejuela que te llevará a la catedral.

By this bar, there is a little street, take it and you will arrive at the cathedral. 

En pleno centro de la ciudad y chocando con los demás edificios de la zona se encuentra la catedral de Mánchester. Esta ha sufrido bastantes remodelaciones. La última en pleno siglo XX debido a las bombas alemanas de la segunda guerra mundial, pero conserva gran parte de su estructura original. No es muy grande pero esta catedral de estilo neogótico tiene mucho encanto y además Visitarla es gratis y hay una audio-guía en español, así que si tienes tiempo no desaproveches la oportunidad. Dirigiéndonos por Corporation street llegaremos a Printworks nuestro siguiente destino.

In the center of the city, in contrast to new buidings the cathedral is located. It suffered several town planning remodeling. The last one in twentieth century because of the bombs from world war II. But it preserve a great deal of its original structure. The cathedral isn,t very big but it has charm. Furthermore the entry is free and there is an audio-guide in spanish lenguage. So if you have got time, don´t waste this opportunity. Following Corporation street we will arrive to Printworks!

Es uno de los edificios mas característico de manchester por eso lo elegí como portada del post. En pleno centro, en su interior uno puede encontrar de todo. Desde exposiciones, cines, restaurantes, y zona de compras! 

It is one of the most characteristic buildings in Mnachester. For this reason, I have put it at the begining of my post. In the city centre, you will be able to find everything. Museums, restaurants, bars and lots of shops.

Este área, donde se encuentra también el edificio Urbis, es un buen lugar para salir por la noche. Esta repleta de bares y discotecas y mucho ambiente. Aquí podemos encontrar el Hard Rock cafe de manchester. Como su nombre indica (Printworks) este edificio fue una gran imprenta de periódicos que tuvo que cerrar y el edificio estuvo una década en desuso, hasta que una asociación de empresas decidió invertir y crear este centro de ocio. Si lo atravesamos llegaremos a Northem Quarter el barrio alternativo de Mánchester!

This area is a good place for clubbing or having a nice dinner with friends. It is a cool place to do that. Also, you can find there The  Manchester's Hard Rock cafe.

This building was a big newspaper printer which had to close. Since then, it had been abandonated for 10 years, till a company decided to invest and create a leisure centre. After passing by this centre, you will arrive at Northem Quarter: our next destination.

En este barrio podremos encontrar tiendas vintage, vinilos y antigüedades. La calle principal de este barrio es Oldham street repleta de tiendas y restaurantes molones!

The alternative part of Manchester: this area is full of vintage shops, and old fashion stuff. The main street is called Oldham and you can find there a lot of shops a nice restaurants, appeling for all kind of tastes.

Muy importante, no podéis iros de esta zona sin ir a TeaCup Kitchen! uno de los mejores sitios de Mánchester!

It is very importan to go to Teacup Kitchen before you leave. This is One of the best places on Manchester from my point of view. 

Ayuntamiento de Manchester y la Torre del Reloj. Es un edificio neogótico y el principal monumento de la ciudad. se encuentra en el centro, en Albert Square. Puedes entrar y visitarlo por dentro. El horario de visita es de lunes a viernes de 9 a 5 p.m.

The Town Hall and the Clock Tower is a neogothic building and the main monument of the city. It is located in the city centre (Albert Square). You can even get in if you wish. It is open to the public from monday to friday (9-5p.m).

Lo que más me gustó es que puedes sentir el ambiente de la época tomándote un te o café en el salón de te abierto al público! y no es nada caro aunque pueda aparentarlo.

What I liked the most was the fact that you can feel as if you were, for a moment, living in the past while you have a lovely cup of tea or coffe in its tea room. Besides, it is quite affordable!

Este edificio esta fusionado con la biblioteca de la universidad de Mánchester y ahora posee una de las colecciones mas extensas del Reino Unido. El edificio es neogótico y puedes entrar de manera gratuita. Es curioso que mientras numerosos turistas toman fotos, hay gente sentada en sus mesas estudiando. Puedes usar espejos para mirar hacia arriba indirectamente y evitar el dolor de cuello, buen invento!

This building is fused with Manchester University´s library. Now it has one of the largest collections in U.K. it is a beautiful example of Gothic architecture in the city. The entry is free too. It is remarkable that while some students are studying the tourist are taking pictures and walking along the library. Also, you can use mirrors to look at the ceiling and prevent the neck pain. Great invention!

Desde aquí bajamos por Deansgate street la mas larga de manchester y al llegar a su fin sabremos que hemos llegado al próximo destino Castlefield. 

From there, the idea was to lead us towards Deansgate street, the largest street in Manchester, In the end of that it will be our next destination.

Esta zona se encuentra ubicada entre el Museo de industria y la gran Torre Hilton. Era una zona puramente industrial con puentes de hierro, vías de ferrocarril y su canal. Ahora esta renovada y restaurada y es un lugar muy agradable para tomar una copa, comer algo en los puestecitos de su mercado o pasear! Para mí una de las mejores zonas! 

This space is located between Industry Museum and Hilton Tower. It was a purely industrial area with steel bridges, railroads tracks, and water canal. Now it is renewed and restored and it is a nice place to spend time with friends drinking or eating something in its lovely market. From my point of view one os the best areas!

Yo tuve la suerte de disfrutar de este lugar un día soleado con un concierto de música en directo! el ambiente fue realmente bueno.

I was lucky and I could enjoy a sunny day with a live music concert! the atmosphere couldn´t be better.

Algo que destacar de esta ciudad es que todos, o casi todos los museos que hay son gratis! y hay muchísimos, depende de tus gustos podrás ir desde el National Football Museum, al Museo de Ciencia e Industria. Os enseñamos algunos!

It should be emphasized that all museums of this city are free.There are a lot of kinds so depend on your likes you could choose the best ones for you. I´ll show you some of them...

Manchester Art Gallery es con casi más de medio millón de visitas al año el centro artístico más importante de Mánchester. Se encuentra en Mosley street. En estas galerías encontraremos obras de los últimos seis siglos. Yo tuve la suerte de disfrutar de esta exposición llamada Fashion & Fredoom! 
It is the major art center in Manchester. It is located in Mosley street. In this galleries we can find art treasures in the last six centuries. I enjoyed this exhibition called Fashion and Fredoom!

Museum of Science & Industry: Mánchester fue una de las cunas de la revolución industrial por lo que no es muy extraño que un museo como tal sea uno de los más populares de la ciudad. En él podrás comprender la evolución de Mánchester. Se encuentra en Liverpool Road. Es un espacio gigante donde se encuentra la exhibición mas grande de máquinas y motores de barcos de vapor de la época de la revolución industrial!
Manchester was the home of the Industrial Revolution, for this reason it isn´t very strange that this museum is one of the most popular in this town. In it, you will be able to understand Manchester evolution. It is located in Liverpol street. 

Justo pegado a el museo una cafetería muy agradable, bonita decoración y ambiente, para tomar un café de relax. Su nombre Warehouse Cafe. Os la enseñamos!

Just next to the museum a charming cafe called Warehouse!
